Cheating and AI Use

Cheating is awful

I just remember that day in September 2023 when almost everybody just started using ChatGPT. Since ChatGPT was out, there have been many students not studying properly and are using AI and generative AI applications to do homework and assignments. This is cheating if not allowed by the instructor.

My opinion on this is to first learn the material yourself and then you can use AI/generative_AI to assist you in learning (not to directly tell you the answers). Ask the AI/generative_AI tool to teach you the content (but then again it's not always perfect as it can make mistakes) or explain the content. If you don't learn anything and are just using AI/generative_AI to solve questions, I would say that you are wasting your tuition money. If you just use AI/generative_AI instead of studying thoroughly, remember that anyone can use AI/generative_AI, and the end result is that at the end of your college degree, you just learned how to use AI/generative_AI and not learned the contents taught in your degree. You should not waste your time and money.

Discussion between coding celebrities (Neetcode and Backend Banter) that cheating has negative impacts on getting a job.

The truth and reality is that students who cheat don't get the jobs straight away in the industry or it takes them a long while to get a job in the industry. This is because they do not have the foundational/technical knowledge.
